In the summer of 2016, I was at a hand craft camp. I had completed all of the assigned projects — so my sewing teacher gave me a scrap of fabric and a piece of paper. By the end of the day, I had designed and sewn three clutch bags. This is what I call, “The Start of It All.”
The next month, I traveled to Birmingham, MI, to visit a friend for a girl’s weekend. As we walked around quaint towns, my mom was carrying a clutch that I had made at camp. One boutique employee stopped my mom and asked, “Where did you get that bag?” She was intrigued by the unique fabric and design. She was astounded to learn that I had made it. A few more stores later, another employee stopped us and wondered where my mom got her clutch. And so the story goes…
In October 2016, I started an entrepreneurship program designed to help young adults find their passion and create a business. My two main passions are sewing and education. I also knew that my business would have a social impact component. I thought back to my experience with the clutch bags and decided to explore the possibility of entering the handbag/accessories industry.
The whole process of developing my business has been overwhelming but fascinating. I learn something new every day — how to establish a business bank account or “Can a 12-year-old really own a business?” At the heart of it all, I always knew that even though I’m little, I have visions of my business growing big. I am so fortunate to have a supportive team of people around me to help me turn my dream into reality.
I hope you truly enjoy your littlebags! I think you’re going to love them as much as I do!
